Dreams Come True

This page introduces Dream Come True to the world

Dreams Come True Band Members

Miwa Yoshida (Vocals, Vocal Arrangement)
Miwa composes lyrics and arranges melodies and harmonies for Vocals.  As the frontperson of the band, she is the energy that makes this band such a huge success in the Jpop world.  Her voice is a combination of strength and unique timbre, making it easily recognizable and associated to DCT.  It is easy to see her jazz influences in many of her melodies and improvisational wailing.  In 1995, She released her own solo project which teamed her up with an all star band of American jazz musicians.  Miwa comes across as being a very fun and personable individual in her performances, as well as in interviews.  In 1996 she appeared on the cover of Time Magazine Asia as one of the world's "Divas of Pop". Her birthday is on May 6th, 1965.

Masato Nakamura (Arrangement, Bass Guitar)
Masato is the leader of the band and composes and arranges the music for DCT.  I consider his song writing to be pure musical pop genius, however not pop in that it is typical in todays music scene.  Where Miwa is the energy, Masa is the brain behind the music which is the identity of the band.  When he started the band, I think he was going for a direction in dance oriented music with a heavily sequenced drum sampled type of club music.  The music has since transformed into something which sounds like nothing else I've ever heard in any other Jpop artist.  Their sound now seems to incorporate elements from many different styles like jazz, reggae, big band, funk, and many others as well as the dance sound that they originally started with.  Masato has also scored several television and film soundracks.  He can also be credited for the music of Sonic the Hedgehog. He was born on October 1st, 1958 and grew up in Tokyo.

Takahiro Nishikawa (Programming Input, Keyboards)
Takahiro appears to be somewhat of the technical aspect of the band.  He is credited as a composer of some of the songs as well as "Manipulation" which I still don't understand what that means. His birthday is on May 26th, 1964.

These three individuals make up Dreams Come True.  The following people make significant contributions in one form or another.

Mike Pela (Producer)
I don't know exactly from when this guy got involved with DCT, but I would guess he might be partly responsible for the change from club music to the current sound.  He is listed in many of the credits under various instruments and backing vocals.  Also, Mike is also the engineer on almost all of the tracks. On the latest album with Virgin records he doesn't seem to be involved in the project at all which might support my guess about his being a big part of the pre-Virgin sound.

Live Band Members

I got this information from the Wonderland 95 video. As I am sure that line-ups change constantly in a band like this I will simply state that these performers were the ones that I saw on the live video and I was blown away by their skills. I'm sure any replacements would be of equal caliber.

Rin Urashima (Backing Vocals) Also a partner in a side project with Miwa called Funk the Peanuts. I'm not sure exactly if this is a completely separate project from DCT because I think Masa writes the music and the regular band members perform back up for live appearances. Rin has a pretty incredible sounding voice, very powerful, which complements Miwa's lead. Miwa sings all the backing vocal tracks on the studio recordings so I guess they needed a talented singer to sing these parts during live performances.

Naoya Hamada (Drums) Plays on live performances and used most of the time on studio recordings when Masa really needs that "real live" drummer sound. I believe there is a different drummer on the Love Unlimited tour named Yoshio Kishida.

Tateo Arisawa (Trumpet) Hajime Yamamoto (Saxophone)

Ok, I know. Both of these guys are not on the current Love Unlimited Tour. The current tour member horn sections consists of the following musicians who have contributed to studio recordings for the band:

Kow Ohtani (Keyboards) Funny, but this guy appears to be playing most of the difficult passages in the live performances. He is also listed on many of the credits for the studio recordings.

Jiro Takada (Guitar) Has also played on some of the recordings. He is joined by Paul Dunne (who also has extensive recording credits with the band) on guitar for the current tour.
